The Proud Mother - The Tigress
Tigers are mammals also from the family of Felidae, and are predatory carnivores
hunting and killing all those who invade their lands. Male tigers may weigh up
to 680 pounds where as female tigers may weigh up to 350 pounds. Of the species
of Tigers the Corbetts Tigers are the smallest and Amur Tigers the largest.
Most tigers live in and around forests and grasslands, one reason this suits
them so well is that their stripes aid in camouflaging them. Most tigers stripes
vary from brown/grey to pure black, although white tigers have far fewer
apparent stripes. The form and density of stripes differs between subspecies,
but most tigers have in excess of 100 stripes.
Of all the big cats the Tiger is the strongest swimmer often known to kill their
prey while swimming, Some tigers have even gone as far as to ambush boats to
prey on the fishermen or their days catch. Tigers can often be found bathing in
rivers and lakes and basking in the sun.
Tigers hunt alone and their main food source ranges from wild pigs to deer to
buffalo. If the situation calls they will take larger or smaller prey if needed.
The tigers only known predator often killing them for their fur or their
genitals, which are falsely believed to be aphrodisiacs.
Tigers like lions have been placed on the endangered species list. Activities
like poaching for their fur and the constant destruction of their habitat by man
has led to this. Other than we humans the tiger is at the top of the food chain.
